The Doghouse just caught this new Sharks commercial, featuring Joe Pavelski. This is pretty amusing, but we're hoping he makes it back into the lineup soon.

We salute you!

We went to the game vs the Wild last night. The Doghouse is really liking this new post game salute to the fans. Hopefully keeps going for a long, long time.

Hockey season is almost here!

Hey hey! We're not big fans of preseason, but preseason hockey is better than no hockey. Also, it means that the regular season is coming soon. We here at the Doghouse stumbled upon this new Sharks ad, featuring Big Joe Thornton and a friend. For some reason, the ad plays three times, so you don't need to keep watching.

So long, JR

We're a little late in posting this, it's been one of those lazy summers. However, Jeremy Roenick will not be back in a Sharks sweater...or any sweater for that matter, as he decides to hang it up. Speaking for myself, I am a big fan of JR. Back in the Sega Hockey days, I started playing the Blackhawks because that was the only team with which I could beat Gene's LA Kings. I tried to play the Sharks, but they rated so poorly in every facet of the game, that it wasn't even a competition. I finally settled on Chicago, I was able to at least keep up when I used them, but I never knew who the players were for the first year or so. This was back when the NHL games only used the numbers and not the names in the game. And then when NHL 94 rolled around, JR was virtually unstoppable in that game, as immortalized in the movie, Swingers.



In any case, I was glad that Roenick ended up as a Shark, even if only for a couple years in the twilight of his career. I know he had some down time in Phoenix and LA, and he said some pretty stupid things during the lockout, but he is a great player when all is said and done. A 9-time all-star, he ended up with 1363 games played, 513 goals, 703 assists, 1216 points, and 1463 penalty minutes. One of only three American born players to score 500+ goals (the other two being Joe Mullen and Mike Modano). So long, JR, you will be missed.

So long, Joe

It's been a bit quiet here at Frannie's Doghouse. The disappointment of yet another early postseason exit by the Sharks is starting to wear off and we're waiting with interest to see what Doug Wilson has in store for the team. There's been a lot of free agent movement and some interesting trades around the league (cya later, Chris Pronger!), but the Sharks have been on the quiet side in comparison to some teams. We like the 4-year contract for Ryane Clowe. We were very interested in Jonas Gustavsson, but he decided to sign with Toronto. Letting Grier, Goc, and Plihal go is interesting, but we feel like there's more to come. And so we wait.

In the meantime, we say goodbye to the excellent Joe Sakic. That guy was simply awesome to watch...when he wasn't terrorizing the Sharks. He finishes with 625 goals, 1013 assists (1641 points) in 1378 games over the span of 20 years, which doesn't even come close to telling the whole story. Awesome. It's been a bit quiet here at Frannie's Doghouse, but you can sleep soundly at night knowing that we are still here. While we here at the Doghouse are definitely bummed that the Sharks have made yet another early postseason exit, we will never, ever put on a display like this. At least not publicly.
